I would submit, yes, it’s true we don’t really care about kids, but we don’t really care about WOMEN either. We’ve been judged too stupid to have bodily autonomy, thus forced to give birth even in instances of rape, no federal benefits for her and baby, and no care for the child so she can work to earn a living. There’s no off ramp from this vicious cycle.

Another voice heard from on one of my favorite subjects. Thom Hartmann weighs in on the American Family and the American Dream:

Here is a response from the White House on the subject of child care. Not satisfying, but still.

I write President Biden regularly. Nobody in the WH really reads this stuff. But they count the number of contacts about various subjects - get a pulse of what Americans feel and what they want. WRITE! Tell Biden and your House Rep and your Senators what you care about. What you are upset about. What you want done.

Dear Mr. Alstrom,

Our Nation is strongest when everyone has the opportunity to join the workforce and contribute to the economy. But many workers struggle to both hold a full-time job and care for their children. Child care is extremely costly—in some major cities in America, parents are paying more than $15,000 a year per child for child care. My Administration is committed to reducing those costs and expanding access to high-quality, affordable child care.

I was proud to secure $24 billion to stabilize the child care sector during the pandemic. States have sent those funds to 200,000 child care providers, helping them stay open and serve more than 9.5 million children. But it’s not enough. I’m calling on Congress to restore the expanded Child Tax Credit, which put money in parents’ pockets and cut child poverty in half to the lowest level in history. I’m working to lower child care costs and make sure that the vast majority of families earning less than $200,000 a year will pay no more than $10 a day for high-quality child care. And I will keep fighting so that no family has to pay for preschool.

Thank you again for writing to me about this important issue. I am committed to giving people across America a little more breathing room so they can raise their families.

Sincerely,

Joe Biden
