Is James Talarico the future we need?
If you are a fan of Stephen Colbert, then apologies. This is old news. But a few of you may not have seen this “Late Show” clip that wasn’t “allowed” on the Late Show. Instead, Colbert dropped the interview on YouTube. Which is symbolic and powerful. More people watch YouTube videos than “CBS” - a legacy cable TV network now controlled by MagaNazi Sycophants.
Please listen to the most eloquent and principled politician I have heard in decades. James Talarico is running for Senate from Texas. He checks all the boxes for credentials and political positions. And he is a clear speaker with a sense of humor!
It is unfortunate that Talarico is competing with another fine Democrat. Jasmine Crockett has been pitted against an ally by virtue of Texas gerrymandering. I hope they keep it “together”. Crockett is powerful and eloquent in her own special way. If she loses this primary race, I hope she finds another path to political participation. I’d be thrilled to vote for her in a presidential race.
But here we are. A young white guy with a speaking skill set, solid resume and a pitch that can appeal to all of us. I am an atheist/agnostic/none. Still not sure about what’s out there in the ether. But I think if I wanted to “find a god” (I don’t) it would be the one Talarico talks about. If there was a guy named Jesus, I’d like the Jesus Talarico refers to. “Love your neighbor, no matter who they are.”
There was one other sentence from Talarico that captured THE single concept that will return sanity to power. “This isn’t about left versus right. This about top versus bottom.” He said the obvious. The culture wars are a smoke screen for the MAGA rich to steal more money and resources from the people.
If James Talarico wins the Democratic Primary for U.S. Senate, he will likely win in the general election. This is a Texan even Republicans can like. And Democrats are upsetting the apple carts in every race. He will be a first term Senator with a spotless background.
There was another first term Senator who few had ever heard of until he gave a speech at a convention. He so impressed America that he went on to become President.
You heard it here. James Talarico is presidential timber. I could be wrong. It happens all the time. Regardless, I think the video that Colbert released shows us a path to reclaim the support of religious and non-religious people. With leaders like Talarico and Crockett, we can retrieve democracy and dispatch fascism.

Amen brother. Our future needs both Talarico and Crockett. If we fail to empower people of integrity and compassion such as these two gems, well, there won't be a future world worth living in. Thanks for carrying the message with another great post.

I did see the clip of Talarico with Stephen Cobert. He was a wild man given that Trump is killing innocent people at a fair clip if you add up all the dead bodies at this point. Including the one's that have died in the gulags.
Wow, a "Christian" that has actually read the New Testament gospels. That is a new approach for Christians apparently. I thought "Christian" had become a Trump cult of hate and White Supremacy to be honest.
Even the priest at my wife's Greek Orthodox Church voted for Trump (twice).
