Lauri is correct, of course! That ship sailed long, long ago. An impossible Hail Mary for sure.
But think about it. We as Democrats have been cowed and crushed by bloviation and bluster. Four years ago Republicans refused to certify the results of the Electoral College on the basis of pure bullshit. No facts. Just conspiracy nonsense.
And here we are as a party, too intimidated to do the same based on real LAWS! What would the MAGA crew have done if Biden had instigated a riot that led to a rebellion?
I needed to put it out there and not go quietly into January 20th without speaking it. I am tired of us being run over like road kill.
Kudos to Carol Kocivar for saying it so well. We COULD have stopped the train of fascism.
Thank you Bill, I have been writing these emails to my Congressman, Senators, Governor, and Assemblyman monthly through November. Apparently everyone of them is too fright3en3ed of losing support of the billionaire class to be bothered with constituents. I don't know if a petition would help, I think it's too late, but I'll sign anyway if anyone start one. What I do think is the Democratic party better be ready to fight tooth and nail to get midterm elections next year.
However, this is America. Rich folks of a certain color are sort of not included in being subject to the laws. So, Trump will not be subject to them.
An excellent example of formal exemption from crimes was the passing, by the Virginia colony, of laws on the books legalizing white male rape on black female slaves (mulatto slaves were more valuable at sale).
So, long ago, I stopped being enraged/outraged by 85% of the US prison population being black or brown while white folks get by with (whatever they want including stealing trillions of dollars during the big bailouts of banks).
It's worth a try Bill. While Lauri is probably quite correct in a politically practical sense, the law remains clear and, if nothing else, we can tweak some Congressional consciences when the s*** hits the fan.
Are you serious? That ship sailed, long ago. The big question now is whether it will be legal to behave in accordance with our laws, at all. Will some of us be arrested for adhering to laws?
I hate to sound defeatist, Bill, but I think it's far too late for this. It should have been teed up immediately after the supreme court's can-kicking decision. There are far too many issues to be litigated for this to happen in the next two weeks. For all of trump's faults, he's a master at baiting (i.e., he's a master baiter), sowing chaos, deflecting blame, delaying justice, and convincing otherwise intelligent people to avoid thinking for themselves. He will occupy the White House on January 20, despite our best efforts to the contrary. We need to prepare for the consequences of that disastrous outcome.
I'm with you. Letters have gone to my senators and representative, telling them of my absolute disgust with both the Congress and the corrupt Supreme Court. Some may say it's too late, but I say it's never too late to do the right thing. And the right thing in this case is stopping Trump.

Bill,
More excellent writing and of course I agree.
