Thanks for recommending American Crisis by Margaret Sullivan. I've begun a free subscription.

BTW, it infuriates me that the media keeps asking Kamala Harris and Tim Walz to enunciate their platform and give details about it, yet they do not call Trump to task for the blatant lies that spew from his vicious mouth every time he opens it. And they don't ask him about HIS platform details, I guess because they figure it's all about Project 2025, which they'd rather just ignore, despite the dire threat to democracy it poses. At least Ali Velshi discusses points about it on every one of his broadcasts on MSNBC.

I'm over the media's white glove treatment of Trump as well. The MAGA movement is a disgrace to what this country was supposed to be. It's going to take a long time and some great leaders/role models to rid ourselves of the stink he will leave behind.

Ms. Sullivan has done well from your post today Bill. Your post is excellent on its own as well. I'd debate only one point, and that's the burning of Project 2025 documents. We'll need at least a few copies for the same reason that we keep copies of Mein Kampf, Das Kapital, and the Little Red Book around. If we forget how our opponents plan, we become subject to their potential victory. Never again is developing an additional meaning.

Perhaps ensconce a copy in a special museum of Fascism where all the books and writings of dictators are on full display. Make the museum a must for every kid visiting the nations capital.

And a touring version that goes around every 5 years or so.

I think kids should be learning this stuff in Jr. high and high school, but I think a museum of fascism and dictators for DC is a really good idea.

I just subscribed to American Crisis too. Thanks for recommending Bill. I always liked her writing and wasn’t aware she had a Substack. The Guardian is my go to as well.

Excellent analysis. To reiterate IT IS ALL THEATER. And the would be entertainer, used up unreality personality attempts to use it daily, although I believe he’s failing of late. She’s trying to appeal to moderates of both parties. I don’t begrudge her that tactic. I do think she may appoint a “normal” republican to her cabinet. I admit to being frustrated by President Biden’s attempts to continue trying to “work” with them post J6…I will also admit to my great fear. I do believe she’s committed to climate change AND the progressive values of social justice… they just don’t seem to land with the majority of Americans which completely baffles me. I’m now going to check out your proposed substack.

A related but different method for producing geothermal energy is being developed by Eavor in Canada. It does not involve fracking. It involves drilling several miles below the surface and making a bunch of channels that act as an underground heat exchanger. Water is circulated through the channels, which are completely closed, and that is used to heat a secondary fluid at the surface to drive turbines and generators. It is a very safe, benign method to extract geothermal energy, and can be used in many areas around the world, unlike existing geothermal technology. Eavor is building its first plant in Germany, which will provide both direct heat for buildings and electrical power. Please check out Eavor and invest in them. (I don't work for them, I'm just a cheerleader.)

Interestingly, the US Department of Energy has just co-funded a demonstration of storing huge amounts of thermal energy in the sandstone deposits in depleted oil wells underneath California, using water to get heat the porous sandstone heated by solar energy above ground. Much longer than batteries - this would be seasonal energy storage, and combines geothermal and solar thermal technologies.

This is interesting and I never heard of it before. Thanks for unlocking the article. I still wish Kamala would be against fracking - after the election perhaps she'll set some limits or limits to the chemicals that can be used. I wish (I know... if wishes were horses) they'd find an alternative because often we can have it all or most of it. Down in the comments to this article there is someone who says a company (in Canada I believe - and they supply the name which I will have to go back and find) has a version of this that doesn't use chemicals and it sounds like they basically drill, push in water, and use the steam. Anyway... check the article's comments. It's not that far down.
