We are only collateral damage to the greed monsters. Privatize it all, say the whores of Wallstreet. If the disease doesn't kill you first, the bill will. We don't value life in this country. We value money.

Ever since I had kids and learning about other developed countries' healthcare, childcare and employee treatment, I have been appalled by how backwards the US is, how much we have lost beginning with Nixon's changes to hospitals' profitability options.

So so depressing and getting worse, as incomes fall except for the very wealthy.

Universal healthcare is a human right.

Thanks Bill for putting this back on the radar. It is it's own tragic fact, and also evocative of a much needed alteration in the most basic ethos of the American culture, and in its most degraded form called MAGA. I recommend a book "Dying of Whiteness" which is the lap where all this bullshit lands.

You're right, Bill.

I'm old enough to remember when the medical industry wasn't Big Business (worked 38 years in it).

I think the recent pandemic showcases the regard this country has for life, which honestly, isn't much at all. There was no call for a reckoning of the mismanagement of the situation, the mortality rate's been memory holed, and vaccinations (many of them) have become a MAGA battle cry.

So, no, I think we're too self oriented, preoccupied and ignorant to devote time/effort addressing the medical conglomerate's resistance to universal healthcare. Our system has become a play to play nightmare.

I see the only hope to even beginning to turn this around is several terms of strong Democratic majorities.

Apologies for being a downer - here in WI, the fallout of this situation's highly visible. They really are the frogs sitting in that pan of water on the stove.

Sincerely though, have a better day.
