Yep---Ridin' with Biden. He's old but he's the champion we have and it's time to go out there and defeat Trump and his minions of destruction and Fascism. Nothing is perfect, and it is clear who/what intends to destroy this country! Forward.

This is a good and well reasoned argument countering Klien’s proposition. However, the very idea of even considering replacing Biden is absurd. Biden has accomplished a remarkable amount, especially given the MAGA Republican disarray and obstruction. He has been a great president. Period.

And who would Democrats nominate at a brokered convention? None of the possibilities mentioned, Newsome, Whitmer or Harris has the experience needed to be president and any one of them would fracture the party, handing the presidency to Trump, God help us.

We need to do all we can to support Biden and get out the vote. End of discussion.

Let’s all drop it and turn our attention to doing everything possible to see Joe is reelected. Continuing this conversation, even the way you are doing it, only focuses on his age. Let Lawrence O’Donnell’s takedown of the idea truly be the last word.

Good article Bill, and I agree with your conclusion that, unless he unveils a fully developed plan between now and the end of the convention to transfer the positive parts of his record, the campaign war chest he's accumulated, and an enthusiastically supportive about to be former Vice President, to another unanimously acclaimed successor, Biden is the man and, given the nature of his regrettably likely opponent, he should have our wholehearted support even if we don't like everything he's done or we're unhappy that he hasn't solved all of the world's problems in 3 years.

I am a conservative who will whole heartedly vote for Joe Biden.

I disagree on many issues but I love the man

and I love his total devotion to democracy.

He has done an outstanding job as President

and I believe he would continue to govern effectively if re-elected.

He is most definitely not too old to lead well.

I still think President Biden should pass the baton--even now--

to a younger leader who possesses tremendous fighting energy and determination.

Why???

Because in spite of having everything Biden needs to LEAD

there is ONE thing I think he does not possess

(this is an observation, not a put down, and I sincerely hope I am wrong.)

It's the one thing that is actually the prerequisite

to getting another four years to lead.

And what is that?

The fighting capability to DEFEAT Trump.

The aggressive, strategic, verbal capability

to overpower and humiliate the bastard.

Public humiliation is the ONLY thing a malignant narcissist fears.

To defeat Trump, the country must SEE Trump being publicly humiliated.

Utterly humiliated for being a traitor to his country.

For abandoning and betraying ALL of us, even his own flock.

Not--one---single---leader--nor individual--in American or in the world

has yet DONE that.

Have you ever seen it? I have not.

IS there a Democrat capable of doing it?

Hillary could not do it.

Harris cannot do it.

In my view, alas, neither Joe nor Jill can do it.

Who could?

Who would not be intimidated to face down Trump eye to eye

then proceed to wipe the floor with him?

I pray someone will yet emerge who can.

If no one can,

if there is no one that a key advisor like Barack Obama or David Axelrod

can take to Biden and convince him to step aside

and pass the torch to that fighter,

I fear we will lose.

As I said, I hope I am wrong.

And I will do all I can to help Joe win.

If a president announces early in his term that he will not run for re-election, it cripples him. He loses political capital. So they say. But I wonder. He would still be president for four full years with opportunities to do the things that Joe did. I too wish he had stepped back from the contest and just governed. There are so many terrific potential candidates. But alas...

In the meantime, thank you for putting political philosophies aside and realizing that we are voting on integrity, decency, international relationships and a better democracy vs a bully with no real interest in anything or anyone other than himself.

When I was young I was a "Conservative". I still consider myself fiscally conservative (original meaning of the word!). There is value in having a balance between liberal and conservative views. The problem is, of course, that today's "conservatives" would horrify people who were the early pioneers of the movement. Buckley and Goldwater are spinning in their graves.

Do you feel any better after the SOTU speech? I think most of us do. I thought it was a solid 10 and an 11 as he handled the heckling.

Thank you, Bill, for sharing your substantial and highly constructive thoughts. We could talk for hours and

I would learn much. I'm actually a neoconservative. Liz Cheney is the leader I most admire in today's America. She's the only person I can think of who could clean Trump's clock in a debate. To him, she is enemy number one. If he wins in November she will likely be dealt with in much the same manner as Navalny.

Biden's SOTU was indeed a solid 10

plus 11--as.a speech demonstrating his robust capability to lead. That was apparently his strategic priority and he totally succeeded.

However, he did no damage to Trump.

On the contrary, he pushed back into Trump's arms voters who could have been pulled on board if he had not so stridently pushed the pro- choice view.

Nikki Haley.was wiser. She told Democrats she was open to compromise on the abortion issue. Thus, they were able in conscience

to cross the aisle and vote for her.

Biden gave the pro- life Trump supporter even a glimmer of any such opening. He wouldn't have lost the progressives if he had, but he would have pulled in the Republicans

who don't want a dictatorship.

Yes, let's stop with the Klein nonsense. No president is going to please all of his party, all of the time. And

Klein has gotten a lot of blow

back for that stupid article, as has the Times.

This election will be the most

consequential election in the

last 50 years. For many of us

in our lifetimes.

We're for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris every inch of

the way and every dollar we

can spare.

We have a choice! Democracy or authoritarian

dictatorship. Shout it! Vote

Blue! Takebit to them every

step of the way to the ballot

box!

BTW, Larry O'Donnell had a great piece on this Thursday night. Worth the 27 minutes.

O'Donnell hit it out of the park. Brilliant. The Presidency shouldn't be about theater. His explanation and description of FDRs last months as world leader was wonderful.

TV reporters are failing badly. They act like children.

I'm certainly "Mad as Hell..."

Sometimes I want to put that on a sandwich board and walk around town. But in this village the "choir" is 90% on our side. Lucky we are.

Not sure how my neighborhood lines up, but I've ordered a Biden-Harris t-shirt and will probably have a better idea soon.
