Great story, Bill. I've often struggled with the disingenuousness of religions that don't adhere to basic tenets of human decency, like the golden rule. Father Strobel got it.
Mahalo /Thank you for sharing this wonderful article.
I can relate …I have faith but not in any organized religion …especially the Catholic Church and it’s continued refusal /denial of the pedophilia which is “still” going on and the Vatican continues to turn a blind eye . If I hear “hate the sun but love the sinner” one more time as lives of children continue to be destroyed I could just spit but I am grateful this Nashville priest managed to step up to place for “community” regardless of race/color/creed and he showed real compassion (the compassion Jesus preached of “do unto others as you would have done unto yourself” and he found a way to feed/clothe & shelter our homeless brothers and sisters. (YAY!)
What struck me most was his statement to novelist Ann Parchett “All you have to do “is give a little bit of understanding to the possibility that life might not have been fair.” Hmmm what a concept ; compassion for others and the hand they have been dealt .
