Water is our mail problem. If we don't build desalination plants to solve our water problems we will find we will not have enough water to drink but we will also not produce enough food to be able to feed our population let alone the world.

Yes, desalination has been done, however, not on an industrialization basis. If we had such a process we certainly have the areas to store the excess water. Just look at the reservoirs in your area if you live in the West. They are getting close to empty! As for the waste, we don't have a problem with nuclear waste. Yes nuclear waste can't be stored everywhere but we have come up with the solutions just like salty waste will be addressed when we produce enough to make it profitable to deal with.
