I worked for the EPA in the 90s. It was very, very difficult to get anything done. Many internal political fiefdoms and bureaucrats hindered the work. That was when it was operating in good times. With tRUmp in office, it will be completely dormant. Sending my regret to the world and all the kids and future kids to be born on this planet.
Wow! Thanks Bill! A frightening group of videos... ! I knew/know about these movements but the extent and mainstreaming of these ideas (the Christian Nationalist one especially) hits hard.
I loved that you started off with your own story and the anecdote about your neighbors son and it makes me cry..
Keep writing and gardening and keeping us informed..
Well, I was trying to come out of despair mode and hold on to some hope this morning. Faced with this kind of reality day after day really can wear us down, but we do have to know, don't we? Three important stores, Bill. We must keep visualizing the end to each of them. It is taking more time than we would like, but history offers us many examples of the long road to finally overcome the worst case scenarios. Working together as we are doing, we shall overcome once again! Heather Cox Richardson includes inspiring videos today on her substack that illustrate just that. Oh, how I would love to show these videos to those people desiring a theocracy where women are subservient.
Beyond the situation here, I am sad and frustrated that the EU seems to be capitulating. So far there seems no counter balancing world power, except the Chinese. Fortunately they seem to accept science and are building away from fossil fuels.
Really frightening stuff, Bill, especially the American Taliban piece. I’ve given up on CNN, but I think this was a pretty good interview. It wasn’t judgmental, but self-explanatory to sentient and objective viewers. Unfortunately, though, for others…
Whenever I see stuff like the willful adherence to “teachings” that have obviously been interpreted and reinterpreted thru many generations of evolution, I am reminded of my own belief: “As humans, we are endowed with the incomparable ability to think for ourselves. It’s incomprehensible that so many choose not to do so, and instead surrender themselves to the questionable leadership of others.”

Thanks for your essays, Bill.
I can't watch. It's too much to bear.
Understood. I allow myself certain times of the day to think about this apocalypse. Then I just don't. It's just so painful and discouraging.
