I must admit to a high level of anxiety, but not due to polls. I don't believe they're accurate or useful for a number of reasons discussed here and elsewhere. I'm concerned about the willingness of millions of sentient fellow Americans to entrust our nation to one of the least qualified, morally bankrupt, conniving, lying piles of protoplasm on the planet. They claim they're holding their noses and voting for him because they like his policies. What policies? "F... 'em all?"
I hope the women of our nation save us from ourselves, but many of them are drinking from the same punchbowl. The Republicans have certainly given them plenty to shake them out of their trance.
I'm also extremely concerned about the unbridled influence of our nation's oligarchs. Musk, Bezos, and a bunch of others are literally and effectively buying votes.
I can't wait for this election to be over, so I can turn my attention to either supporting a democracy reborn with values of compassion, fairness, and opportunity, or joining forces with other "enemies within" to resist the dictatorship.
Bob, I'm 78 and have been actively involved in election campaigns since my teens.
Sure this is a high anxiety election (not the first in my memory) and the polls and pundits are pure bullshit (like defending Trump's indefensible desire for "9 rifles to shoot Liz Cheney in the face" as "he was joking" or "colorful language" or "Trump being Trump").
But there are strong reasons for Hope: here are a few them:
We are still a young nation that lacks an education system that truly informs our youth about the things HCR writes about. The "Confederacy" is alive and well - just morphing, changing shape and names.
And once again, religious bullshit leads the way - encouraging bigotry under the cover of "goodness".
Bill, in my 2-year run I earned about 300 subscribers, and in the 2 weeks since I posted "5 Reasons For Hope" another 70 folks subscribed, which tells me people are embracing Hope and Change and looking forward to the end of Trump's ugly era, and a fresh start with Kamala.
And the whole media narrative (breaking news, Trump up a point, stay tuned) is pure BS; the signs are there: a Blue Landslide is coming.
the media is really pushing this too-close-to-call narrative, because it keeps their followers hanging on, stay tuned, what's gonna happen?
But in reality, there are so many markers that this is a throw-the-bums-out Wave Election, and "bums" are Trump and his fascist mob.
Election lines are full of Women, not angry young men, and Women are powering that Blue Wave.
But the "high anxiety" narrative is useful to get out every last anti-Trump vote - complacency (plus a lot of BS meddling) killed Hillary's chances, but this time around, Trump is SO dangerous that the possibility of him winning is gonna drive a landslide turnout, and his pandering to young men won't help him.
Thanks for subscribing, but FYI, I'll be glad to end the newsletter after Kamala wins. It'll. be Mission Accomplished
The "end" of Trump is coming; today a microphone failed him and he said he wanted to punch the technician. Then he said "when I get mad, I want to punch people". And the MAGA crowd cheered. I think in these last weeks and days Trump is driving millions of never-Trumpers (but hesitant about Kamala) right into Kamala's arms.
And the Julia Roberts ad is wonderful: a MAGA wife who secretly votes for Kamala.
OMG Abraham !! I can’t Mahalo/Thank you sooooo much for this message of hope !
Personally …I am going to take the next three days off because this Liz Cheney “firing squad” was the final straw for me . My anxiety has been off the charts but your reasons for hope means that “sanity “ still has purchase in our country …it means there are more of us that can “critically think” than not and that makes me very hopeful !
With a very long day at the polls coming up on Tuesday, I've largely stopped reading political commentary and gave up on any poll related reporting weeks ago. The polls, and those news organizations that subscribe to, underwrite, and profit from them, have a major stake in continuing to show a close race, because no rational person would believe a blowout on the part of the failed insurrectionist and a blowout by the Harris-Walz team would enable people turning back to real life and the 'Likes', clicks, and contributions would all dry up along with any interest in what they were doing. To say that the polls are b***s*** is being too kind; like most of the campaign related infrastructure, including the consulting and pundit classes, they're income driven and will "massage" the data to deliver the outcome most consistent with that goal.
We will prevail, we just won't know it for sure until at least Wednesday.
I've stopped reading anything about polls. They are panic inducing, which isn't helpful. For those who know that Democracy is on the ballet and recognize the difference between the candidates, polls are not our friend. They *may* be helpful to galvanize some voters, I don't know. I DO know we've been to this "pole" dance before and it ended like the worst prom night ever.
We're almost to the finish line, and I'm excited for the first woman president. I'm also looking forward to a decisive win, and I hope by Wednesday it will be all behind us. Yes, t-Rump will say he won and the polls are rigged, but that there will be an overwhelming number of votes that it will be impossible for anyone to give his nonsense a second thought. I can hope for the best possible outcome, right?
Thank you, Bill, I voted in early October, thanks to Ballot Trax, I know my vote has already been counted. Naturally I voted Democratic all the way down and even voted for the 11 referendums. Two of my grandchildren have already voted the other four have assured me they will vote Tuesday, Of Course our 55 electoral college votes will go to Harris/Walz, we are California.

Abraham,
This is outstanding. The logic is reality based. Those reasons to be hopeful help me with the terror in my heart.
Thank you.
Bill, Mike S. here.
Turns out that using American history to predict the outcome was more accurate than the polls. Again.
White Americans, historically, are just not big fans of black folks. History carried the day, again.
HCR writes a great analysis today about that history and its impacts on people.
We are still a young nation that lacks an education system that truly informs our youth about the things HCR writes about. The "Confederacy" is alive and well - just morphing, changing shape and names.
And once again, religious bullshit leads the way - encouraging bigotry under the cover of "goodness".

On to Tuesday!
Thanks, Abraham. I'll be there until the end.

Trump is self-destructing before our eyes.

there are lots of reasons to be optimistic; my 2¢ is a Blue Landslide.
and like you i'm taking a few days off, just waiting for Tuesday night celebration.
The dark era of Trump is coming to an end.
All the women in my world are all in. We can do this together!

Ironic that the US election is being held on Guy Fawks Day. Anxiety? I am suffering from Pre Traumatic Stress Disorder!
