Private Equity Vultures are picking at our bones

The PEVs - Private Equity Vultures have eaten most of the meat and organs. Now they are picking at the bones of your life. Here are two examples that are obscured by the political theater and absurdity of cage fighting on the White House Lawn, a “thug fund” to pay insurrectionist criminals and a disastrous “war of choice" that is hurting every person on the planet.

And abandoning research equipment to monitor ocean temperatures. Reminds me of the day “45” said that testing for Covid should be limited because the numbers would make him look bad…

But I digress. The stuff we should be screaming about is ignored by most of the media. Because it is long form. You really have to think about it. Read about it. Let the enormity of the theft and abuse wash over you.

Bottom line? You can’t get an appointment with a primary care physician because the people running healthcare don’t care. They are running our health system as if its sole purpose is to make money. For them.

They are not the least interested in whether America’s life spans are lower than peer countries. While the U.S. has a lower life expectancy than comparable countries, it spends nearly twice as much as its peers on healthcare per person.

Each year, the U.S. records more than 5 infant deaths per 1,000 live births, far exceeding the rates in other high-income countries. Read this.

“When a doctor practices at a hospital, the hospital charges rent and attributes other indirect costs to the physician practice. One recently retired CEO of a major hospital group told me, “I lost about $100,000 on every [primary care] physician.” Average doctor earnings of about $250,000 year, plus attributed indirect costs, were well above what the hospital could bill insurers.

By contrast, specialists are big profit centers.”

“Thus the paradox: Specialists, as profit centers, get along with this new complexity just fine. They make plenty of money off it and are not suffering the same level of burnout. But since the coding and payment system is based largely on procedures and specialized expertise, primary care doctors are systematically undercompensated for listening, evaluating, writing up process notes, and coordinating care, all of which is the essence of their job.”

It is long past time for the people to own the system. All the people. If private enterprise and private equity were going bring this nation adequate healthcare - they would have and could have done it by now. THEY DON’T CARE IF WE SUFFER, as long as they stay rich.
